How Good is the WiFi Audio Recorder Quality?

WiFi Connectivity
Our digital audio recorder saves sound to an optional internal memory card to physically retrieve later or remotely access.  

The Concept: It uses a WiFi data network to transmit sound. It uses a sensitive microphone to pick up voices and ambient noise, converting them into digital files. This is the core function of the device. Unlike a camera that captures video, this is specialized for sound.

The Benefit: Listen to live audio or download recordings from anywhere in the world provided the device receives a decent WiFi signal.

Example: Open your phone App and hear what’s happening in the office in real-time. It’s like the "Voice Memos" app on your iPhone, but inside a piece of hardware designed to stay powered on for long periods.

Summary Table

If WiFi is unavailable see our 4G Audio Voice Recorder.  Slightly different because it wirelessly connects to the 4G mobile phone network although customers preferring 4G will need to buy a prepaid 4G SIM card which has an ongoing data fee, just like a mobile phone. WiFi on the other hand is virtually data free and significantly cheaper. 

The WiFi Audio Recorder is supplied with a sensitive built in microphone. If you prefer this same device with an external flexible microphone and a larger battery, see Ultra Long Standby model. 

As with any audio recorder, ambient background noise such as TV audio, Radio, loud traffic noise, closing doors etc can all trigger recording. Authorised user/s may elect to enable or disable push notifications when audio volume is above a certain DB level. 

Our WiFi audio Recorder can function for weeks on one battery charge, depending on how often it records and/or remotely accessed. For longer term use it may be USB 5V powered or a powerbank. 

Real-Time
Standard audio recorders simply record to an optional SD card and recordings played either from the internal speaker or downloaded to USB PC. Our WiFi audio recorder supports an optional SD memory card (available from our checkout) or Cloud upload.  Users may remotely access access Cloud recordings or the internal SD card to replay and/or download. 

4G & WiFi Audio Recorders are remotely accessed remote remote playback and alerts. The SD card in this device can be removed and recordings played on PC or MAC whereas standard or basic Audio recorders have limited battery capacity, often with a shorter recording duration. 

A Wifi Audio Recorder uses small data packets, about 8MB per hour and 100 x less data than video.

Our free phone App or PC/MAC Audio Widget sets the device time and date and recording parameters. Our customers receive an easy to understand detailed screenshot manual and a 5V USB power supply to recharge the internal battery or power the device for even longer term use. 

WiFi Audio Recorder remote App access and playback does use extra battery power (just like a mobile phone) so for longer term use, connect it to a 5V power supply, similar to a USB phone charger.   

How long will the battery last?  
That depends on how often it's accessed, recording duration or Cloud recording access. If the battery is fully charged with continuous upload, allow for about 15-20 hours before needing a recharge which takes about 2 hours.

If on the other hand the device is set to Volume Detect only, expect up to 7 days from one battery charge.  In Audio Volume mode, receive push notifications when audio is uploaded. This device enters  “hibernation mode” when not recording.  However, when audio above a certain DB level is detected, it will auto wake and record for a specific time, perhaps a minute or more depending on settings.  If audio continues beyond 1 minute, it will continue to record in pre-set timed segments.  Once sound volume ceases it returns to “sleep mode” conserving battery power. 

Recording options are at user discretion. Device functions can be easily altered from your PC or MAC widget. Connect the audio recorder to PC USB (USB lead supplied) open the "audio monitor" widget, make any change, save and safely eject.  Audio recordings are time and date stamped for authenticity.  The “audio monitor” widget will copy the PC time and date or entered manually. Auto save recordings when it detects sound but users also have the option to manually record so you never miss a thing.

Other than constant recording, this device remains in STANDBY MODE when not recording.  It enters "sleep mode" to conserve battery power but it’s always listening for audio volume wake up.  With 3 selectable modes, each mode has a bearing on battery storage capacity. The more often it records and the more frequently remotely accessed, the faster it uses power.

Continuous Recording Mode
When connected to WiFi, users may access live audio at any time. In this mode the device will record continuously including loop recording (recycle recording) when the SD card is full. With no standby mode it will consume battery power faster than normal. 

Power Saving Mode A – Standby current 1.6mA/h
When the WiFi Audio Recorder is connected to WiFi users may access live audio at any time. When sound activated, it will record for 1 minute or more and send a push alert to your phone. Approximately 14 days standby depending on recording duration and recording frequency. Mode A on the other hand uses slightly more battery power but offers "instant" remote access. Mode A is normally the preferred remote access selection."

Power Saving Mode B – Standby current 1mA/h
When the device is connected to WiFi, users may ONLY remote access live audio within 1 minute of each sound-triggered activation.  When audio activates recording, it will record for a pre selected 1-30 minutes duration and send a push alert to your phone. Approximately 20 days standby depending on recording factors. 20 days is not guaranteed nor warranty.  This is a guide only.

Mode B this is the most efficient power mode. The device isn’t recording when there is no audio. If the device is often recording with frequent live monitoring, additional power is used resulting in fewer standby days.  

Audio Volume Detection 
Instead of recording silence, the device waits for a sound that is loud enough (a certain decibel level) to enable recording.

How it works: When it hears a sound, it records for a set time (like 1 minute or more). If the noise continues, it keeps recording in segments. When it gets quiet again, it goes back to sleep.

Example: It’s like a motion-sensor light on a porch. It stays off while it's dark and still, but the moment someone walks by, the light "wakes up" and shines.

The "Widget" (Settings Tool)
You manage the device using a small computer program called an "audio widget."

How it works: Plug the recorder into your PC or Mac using a supplied USB cable, open the program, change your settings (like the date or sensitivity), and save them.

Example: It’s like setting an alarm clock. Plug it in, set the time you want it to go off, and then unplug it to put it on your nightstand.

Cloud vs. Local Storage
There are two ways the device saves your recordings:

The Cloud: The audio is sent over the WiFi network to a server on the internet. You can get alerts on your phone when this happens and no subscription fees. 

Local Memory: The device has optional SD Card storage. Customer may order an SD card at the checkout or supply your own.  SD cards new or used must be FAT32 formatted before use with this device.

Example: It’s like taking photos on your phone. You can save them just on the phone (Local), or use iCloud or Google Photos (Cloud) so you can see them from anywhere.

Time and Date Stamping
Every recording is marked with the exact time and date it was made.

Why it matters: This proves exactly when an event happened, which is important for "authenticity" (proving the recording is real).

Example: It’s like a digital postmark on a letter that proves exactly when it was mailed.

Scheduled Recording
The Widget allows for setting specific device wake up and sleep times. This function is ideal for routine monitoring which conserves battery power because it’s not recording 24/7 and only during scheduled times. 

We supply our customers only with a free 5V power adapter plus our detailed easy to understand user manual with actual setup screenshots, not to mention personal telephone support if needed.   

Remote Access via a Mobile Phone means you have direct access from anywhere as distance isn’t a factor.  If you’re unable to remotely login, the Audio Recorder will do it anyway. Each recording is a small time and date stamped file so click on any file to locally or remotely playback and/or save.  

How Good is the Audio Recording Quality?
In a word…outstanding! Our WiFi and 4G Audio Recorders share similar audio quality.  Even over distance, the audio clarity is clear, taking into account any background noise. The App does support multi recorders. If you need more zones, order additional 4G or WiFi Audio Recorders.

Manufacturer specifications maintain the Audio Recorder can detect sound up to 8m however, in-house testing, depending on audio volume and ambient surrounding noise, was even better.  Our WiFi Audio Recorders support both SD card (up to 128GB) or Cloud but battery capacity is significantly longer compared to the 4G equivalent version.   

Can I share my device with others?
Yes, with granted password access, our App allows you (the authorised user) to share access with others.  Share with friends, family, and trusted work colleagues.
