Description
The basic difference between a DVR hidden camera and WiFi hidden camera is the ability to remote access. A WiFi Spy Camera allows for mobile phone live viewing with remote access to video recordings, but WiFi must be enabled at the camera location. If WiFi is unavailable or non-preferred, consider this DVR (Digital Video Recorder) hidden camera which is very much the same as the WiFi Clock Cam except for a few less features and functions albeit no remote access to the camera. The DVR camera version is also cheaper.
To playback camera recordings there are two methods.
- Connect the Clock Radio Camera with the supplied USB lead directly to your PC or MAC
- Remove the concealed SD card and with a USB SD card reader, slot it into your PC or MAC
Both options are straightforward which for many is the easier option if not technically inclined at all. Having said that the WiFi Clock Radio & Weather Station spy camera is also easy to use and only requires a phone App.
Are we ticking all the boxes so far? Don’t go away yes there is more. If power happens to be available, great then plug it into power so the camera can be left armed as long as you like. Whenever anyone moves within 5M of the camera (day or night) it will record to the optional concealed internal micro SD card memory. You select the recording quality anywhere from 480P, 720P to HD 1080P.
Who doesn’t have a clock radio nowadays? The introduction of a new clock radio means out with the old (perhaps pretend the old clock is faulty) and in with the new. Our new HD Desk Clock DVR & Weather Station Camera also works as a normal clock radio. Unlike other Hidden Camera Clocks, this new model clock radio camera displays the Time, Date, Day, Temperature & Humidity.
The round button pictured on top of the clock hides the high-resolution pinhole colour camera which won’t be detected as it looks to be part of the clock. This button can be “manually” rotated in any direction so the clock could face one direction and the pinhole spy camera in the opposite direction. If suspicion is concerning, by way of advice, set the clock as you would normally and don’t install the micro SD card or a period of time. When satisfied there is no concern, insert the memory card and activate recording using the supplied wireless remote control.
This HD DVR clock radio and weather station hidden camera is supplied with an internal rechargeable lithium Ion battery.
It will function on battery power only for 2-3 hours however, we also supply an Australian 5V USB power adapter. This adapter is used to power the camera longer term and/or charge the camera battery. The best option, just like any other clock radio, is to plug it into power. Please note this device is not a permanent security camera and should be used for limited surveillance purposes then switched off when not in use.
What happens when the SD card is full and how long will it last?
The highest recording level is HD 1920 x 1080 but users may adjust resolution to lower 720P or 480P selectable levels. Lower set resolution doesn’t necessarily result low quality recordings, but it does have a significant impact on how fast SD card memory is used. This Clock Radio Hidden Camera supports up to 32GB only. SD cards are optional and can be ordered online or supply your own. If using a 3rd party SD card do ensure the card is FAT32 preformatted before use and class 10 or better.
At the highest 1080P real time recording quality, memory consumption is about 6GB per hour of recording. If on the other hand 720P or 480P are selected, that reduces memory usage to about half or quarter of HD 1080P. We find a 32GB Class 10 SD card is sufficient but do remember the camera isn’t recording constantly, its set to motion detection. When the SD card is full, settings allow for STOP recording when full or LOOP record which means the SD card when full will auto overwrite old recordings from the earliest recording date. This is also referred to as Recycle Recording.
If constantly recording to a 32GB micro SD card at 1080P quality, the SD card would be full in about 5-6 hours and for that reason we prefer to use the motion detection function. Again, you select the MD recording duration once motion is detected and that could be anywhere from 1-10 minutes each time motion is detected. If there is continual movement, there will be continual recording anyway.
