Purchase a standard prepaid nano SIM card, the same as used in any mobile phone and one where credit can be topped up when needed. We recommend Telstra for its wide coverage, but Optus is also supported. The carrier with the best signal strength is the optimal choice. Unlike others, Hidden Camera Surveillance does NOT charge any monthly or annual access or subscription fees.
This is your security camera and SIM. You own both, but beware of other companies demanding server access fees. Our cameras do support Cloud backup, but whether you choose to use this optional service is totally up to you.
Can I install this camera myself? Absolutely, and it's really easy. Mount the small camera bracket to a wall, ceiling, timber pole, post, or any other sturdy object—that’s the hard part done. This is a lithium battery-powered security camera, so wherever you decide to mount the camera, it will work. If you happen to have a power point available at the camera location, use it if you like; it can be powered as well, your choice.

What type of SIM do I need? Telstra is recommended for its wide Australian coverage. The SIM requires its own mobile number; do not request a DATA or Broadband-only SIM. It must be a standard active SIM (nano size) with voice and data that can be "credit topped-up" online when needed—exactly like your phone SIM.
Does this 4G camera use much data? No, it doesn’t, but data usage depends on how often the camera is remotely accessed. Many SIM cards have unlimited data, although data is only used during remote live viewing and the playback of SD card or Cloud recordings.
If the camera is shared with others, additional remote access will add to data use. It is wise to initially keep an eye on daily or weekly data use, especially during the first month or two after activation. In most cases, once the camera novelty wears off, so too will the data usage.
If you are using Cloud storage rather than SD card recording, mobile data is used to remotely upload and play back Cloud recordings. SD card recordings are saved locally, so no data is used when recording. Remotely accessing the camera’s SD card recordings and downloading video clips will use some data, albeit a minimal amount. In most cases, there is nothing to be concerned about, provided remote camera access isn't "overused."
With the camera in sleep mode or recording, no data is used. Data is used only when you access the camera for live viewing or playback. Just like a mobile phone, if you aren't surfing the net or downloading video, no data is being used; think of the camera in the same way. For more information, please call our office. We are always happy to assist with any questions.

4G Security Camera vs. Cabled CCTV
In most cases, an IP security camera system requires data cabling and a Networked Video Recorder (NVR), both of which are costly and require professional installation. For remote access, the NVR must be interfaced with your router via high-speed internet. This is a technical and expensive process; not to mention, it is more of a permanent solution rather than a temporary one. In terms of figuring out how to use it all, good luck—an IT degree wouldn't hurt.
Keep in mind that depending on your requirements, if WiFi is available at the camera location, similar mains-powered, solar-powered, and/or battery-powered WiFi security cameras are also available from HCS. Our role is to provide security solutions for all applications.
Assuming power, internet, and WiFi are NOT available at the camera location, you may need one or more cameras for:
-
Councils
-
Bush concealment
-
Illegal dumping
-
City or country homes
-
Farms
-
Offices
-
Sheds
-
Building & construction sites
-
Unattended machinery
-
Pets
-
Cattle
-
Water troughs
-
Mining sites
-
Self-storage
-
Apartment storage sheds
-
Shipping containers
-
Monitoring your vehicle
-
Identifying vandalism
Most of the scenarios above have one thing in common: no power, internet, or WiFi. The point is, provided a mobile phone signal is received at the proposed camera location, that’s all you need. 4G works just as well as WiFi or any cabled CCTV camera, with little to no streaming delay depending on signal strength.
Our 4G outdoor DIY battery and solar-powered security camera is easily moved from one location to another. There's no need to even switch it off while in transit. Remote access one or more 4G cameras simultaneously, directly from your iOS or Android phone.

Ideal for councils needing to conceal or hide a security camera to identify vandals or bush dumpers. The great thing about this amazing 4G camera is the ability to hide it within a rubbish bin, an old box, or even a tree log (thinking caps on, people!) and be instantly alerted to activity at the camera location. Forget about trail cameras; this is both better and more affordable.
With distance no longer a factor, one camera could be in Melbourne, another in Sydney, WA, or perhaps Albury. It really doesn’t matter where the cameras are located, provided each camera receives a mobile signal. The cameras and app are password-protected, preventing unauthorized access; however, our 4G solar security cameras may be shared with friends, family, or work colleagues.
Recording quality?
HD 1080P (or 2-megapixel) resolution is great. Some will argue over video resolution, so let’s put this into perspective: HD 1080P quality isn't poor by any means. Quite the contrary, 1080P is excellent. Other self-proclaimed experts maintain that 4, 6, or even 8MP security cameras are the only way to go. That’s fine advice, but remember: higher resolution requires more memory, more data, and results in much slower video upload and download speeds. Using a 4G mobile network also means prioritizing the conservation of data.
When live viewing or downloading a video recording to a small mobile phone screen, there is virtually no visual difference between 2MP and 8MP. While 4K resolution will look superior to 1080P when viewed on a large 85" TV screen, on a small LED phone screen—come on people, don't be fooled by gimmicks and misinformation. Zooming in to read a car number plate will require higher resolution, but that is not the primary purpose of this camera.

Corrected Text
Night Vision Night vision is supported with built-in, motion-triggered IR illuminators. However, this 4G battery security camera also supports LED night vision. In other words, the user may select either option: activate "No Glow" IR by night, which results in B/W recording, or LED white light night vision. LED allows the camera to record in HD color by night, while the motion-triggered LED light also serves as an intruder deterrent.
Motion Detection? Motion detection activation is an App feature. Some users may prefer to record constantly for various reasons, and our camera supports that function. Constant recording is easily enabled or disabled, but please note it uses memory and battery power faster. If constant recording is enabled, disable Cloud storage and enable SD card recording only.
In such cases, the SD card will need to be removed from the camera and replayed on a PC or Mac. The camera should be powered with our supplied 5V Australian USB power supply.
Enabling motion detection (MD) recording is the recommended option. Motion recording conserves battery power and uses less SD or Cloud memory; additionally, users can only receive motion alerts if the App is set to MD mode. You can select the camera recording duration for each time motion is detected so you won't miss anything. The 4G Solar Security camera automatically enters "sleep mode" or hibernation when it is not detecting motion or recording. In sleep mode, the motion sensor remains permanently armed, but all other camera resources are off. When it senses motion, the camera wakes and records within a second or two while simultaneously sending you an instant, time-and-date-stamped push alert, provided notifications are enabled.
The camera will record upon motion, day or night, for a pre-defined timeframe and save those recordings to your SD card and/or Cloud (if enabled). Should motion continue beyond a minute, the device will resume recording until the motion ceases. After a few minutes of inactivity, the camera resumes sleep mode to conserve battery power.
Another camera App function is motion sensitivity and motion detection distance. The motion sensor can detect activity up to 10m or more, but you may be more concerned with movement within a closer range. The App supports a motion sensitivity range indicator. For example, if a person is distant from the camera (perhaps on a footpath), the device can be set to ignore them if they are deemed too small to trigger recording. However, should a person move within a 1–5m range, they become a much larger subject, triggering the camera to record and send an alert. Alerts are enabled and disabled via the App and/or phone notifications.
Artificial Intelligence (AI) Our 4G security camera is remarkably smart. The built-in AI (an optional function) trains the camera to determine the difference between a car headlight, an animal, and an actual person. In fact, should you wish to enable Cloud recording (a small fee applies), the AI also supports Facial Recognition—a feature usually only available in more costly security cameras. The AI is not affected by elements such as wind, rain, changes in lighting, tree branches, or small animals.
This 4G solar security camera is smarter than most, recording only when necessary. Artificial Intelligence (AI) is the ability of a computer or robot to perform tasks usually requiring human intelligence and discernment. In this case, the built-in AI software takes this security camera to a whole new level.
Zone Recording? Zones are specific areas of interest. For example, an "area of concern" might be a gate, shed, or door. Because the camera lens has a wide 130-degree Field of View (FOV), a large area is often visible that may be of no concern.
Our App can change the live view into a grid. By selecting an area within that grid, that specific zone becomes the primary area of concern. It is tantamount to drawing a digital box around a house door; if a person approaches the door, it triggers a recording and an alert. If they move away from that door, the camera will not record or alert. This function is vital for privacy, allowing you to exclude windows or neighbors' properties.
Audio Alarms This outdoor, weatherproof 4G security camera supports two-way audio conversations and features an internal alarm speaker or siren. Once enabled in the App, the camera can trigger an audible alert in addition to recording and sending a push notification. If someone is sneaking around after hours, the camera can sound a siren, a fire alarm sound, or a voice command such as "Danger, please keep away." You can even record your own custom voice warning.

I can see someone at my gate? That’s what this 4G Solar & Battery CCTV security camera is all about. Click on the alert to instantly view the camera's live feed and, if you like, talk through the camera speaker. Even if you can't see anyone at that exact moment (because the person moved out of view), the app allows you to remotely replay recordings from the SD memory card or Cloud. If, on the other hand, it is a courier at the front door or side gate—and therefore someone legitimately on your property—you can easily strike up a two-way conversation.
Users can select how long the device records each time motion is detected. With continual movement, the camera will record motion events one after the other in pre-selected time slots, auto-saving until the motion ceases. Simply click on any event to replay that recording with audio. If an intruder or person of interest is recorded, you can save the recording to your phone memory or PC for safekeeping. Any saved phone recording can be emailed or sent via text to the police or security services.
Compression Standard This security camera supports H.264/H.265 video compression. While video compression standards may seem technical, using H.265 means the memory card can store recordings using less memory, while offering superior video playback and faster, higher-quality streaming over a wireless network. In other words, at 1080P recording resolution, this latest compression standard allows more video to be saved to the memory card at better quality.
Can I play recordings on a PC or Mac? Yes. The optional SD card (32–128GB), once removed from the camera, can be interfaced with a PC or Mac via USB. Simply download our video player file and refer to our instructions for more information.
What happens when the memory card is full? When the SD card is full, it will begin overwriting the oldest footage, a process known as "recycle recording." This does not mean all recordings from previous weeks or months are deleted at once, but rather a slow, continuous overwrite. For this reason, a 128GB SD card will have four times the recording capacity of a 32GB card before recycling begins.
